How to prepare and ace PMP certification

Project Management Professional (PMP) 

Examination requires a toolkit bursting with things to help you on the road to accomplishing the certification. There are options to consider when looking for the right study material in the market that, it can be sometimes difficult to know where to start.

Here are a few tips and tricks that might help you ace the certification.

Have a Plan. 

The PMBOK processes 5 project management groups and 10 knowledge areas. Make sure you look at the calendar, set a date and build a study plan accordingly. A 12 week is sufficient to prepare and ace the PMP certification.

Grab the study materials 


You need to obtain some of the much-needed study material to help you with the preparation. Initially, get the PMP Training Certification exam book and go thoroughly through it. Take help from other PMP guides and books as well as get the PMP exam prep books to solve sample questions. Also, pick up flash-cards; write the terms, formulas, and definitions for easy and quick understanding of the domains at a glance.

Join a study group


Find a study group that facilitates a study group for PMP and where they review each knowledge areas, take sample quizzes and work through sample problems. Look at the local PMI group and search online to find PMP Certification groups. 

Study as you planned


Take practice exam and join study groups and follow the plan you defined in the 1st step. Balance the work deadlines, social life and plan your study schedule. Dedicate your time to review your materials and prepare regularly for the certification. 

This is the most important step and it requires extensive revision of the course


You will need to revise the entire course at least twice to get hold of the contents. Mock tests and flash cards come handy here as the PMP Training certification syllabus is quite large and needs multiple reviews and practice to complete it. 

Be confident and have a study plan for your preparation

There are 2 ways to appear for the examination: Computerized and Paper-based. In both cases, there are 200 multiple-choice questions with 4 hours of the allotted time to complete them. And as 60% is the pass percentage, you will need to get approximately 138 questions right, to qualify for the PMP Certification. There are no scheduled breaks during the allotted time.

The certification requires a lot of preparation and a plan to learn and cover the material. It is also advised to not just rely on PMBOK guide and take mock tests as well as supplementary guides to help you along with the preparation. The exam might be difficult to pass, but definitely not an impossible task.
